Don Key is the Northern Land Manager for Continental Resources in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to joining Continental in 2013, he worked with Hanna Oil and Gas Co. in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He played football on scholarship at the University of Oklahoma until injury and cancer ended his career in 1981. He earned a Petroleum Land Management degree in 1983. Three OU honors bear his name: the Don Key Award presented annually at the last OU home game, the Don Key Scholarship benefiting an OU student athlete pursuing higher education and the Don Key Leadership Scholarship in OU’s Energy Management Program. Key joined AAPL in 1984 and received his CPL designation in 1991. Key has served on the AAPL board and on numerous committees, including treasurer, ethics chairman, annual meeting chairman and fundraiser, First Vice President and President. He received AAPL’s Best Director’s Communication in 1994 and was the 1999 Landman of the Year. He is an active member of the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen and the Landman’s Association of North Dakota. He and wife Cindy have been married for 31 years and are the proud parents of Madeline and Jonathan Key.
